Clothing

As to clothing, the best approach is according to the principle of “layers.”  Several pieces of thin clothing should be worn over each other. This enables you to be completely flexible, depending on the temperature and weather conditions. The first layer should be a close-fitting “Comfort Layer” made of wool or modern fibres which transports sweat quickly to the outside, thereby keeping the body dry. The next layer is the so-called “Warm Layer”, either fleece or wool, which continues to transport the dampness to the outside, yet at the same time, maintaining a pleasant body temperature.  The final layer, called the “Protection Layer,” whose task it is to keep wind and weather outside, and to prevent the body from becoming cold and wet. This piece usually consists of a semi-permeable membrane, which is breathable on the one hand, and water and windproof on the other.
Never forget to take along gloves and a cap. Because temperatures can sink very quickly, you should always have them along. And especially in summer, due to the intensive sun rays at high altitudes, it is essential to have a sunhat or cap with a wide brim. Even if you have functional clothing, it is still vital to have extra clothing along, as damp clothing causes the body to lose its warmth very quickly.
Shoes
Having the correct footgear is a deciding factor for safety and fun when hiking.
The exact fit prevents unpleasant blisters and gives stability in difficult or rocky terrains. Here it is also important to pay attention to the correct choice of stockings, so that shoe and sock form an entity for the foot. Of special importance is the sole of the shoe which should provide a good foothold not only on grass and earth but also on rubble and solid rock.
For more demanding hiking routes, a very sturdy hiking boot with a stiff sole and adequate heat insulation is absolutely essential.
